Living Room
The living room forms the center of the entertainment zone in the upper level. The open floor plan combines the living room, dining room, kitchen and entry for a large entertainment space, while the railings and step-down provide partitioning to set the living room apart.
The centerpiece of the living room is the gorgeous hand-hewn stone fireplace. I converted the Majestic RC36 fireplace to natural gas for a clean burn and to prevent soot in the interior of the house. The fireplace is controlled by a millivolt valve, which can be converted to remote-control in the future. Bifold glass doors allow you to keep the heat down while entertaining, or leave them open to make the living room nice and cozy.
4 3” eyeball lights direct the eye towards the fireplace, and whatever art you choose to place on the adjoining walls.
Additional lighting is provided by 5 65w recessed lights, and 2 100w lights contained in the propeller-style ceiling fans.
The primary wall in the living room is designed to be the center of your home theater and entertainment system. The wall is triple-studded to handle the weight of a monster flat-panel LCD or Plasma TV. Electrical, HDMI, and multiple Cat5 lines are run to boxes high in the wall to keep them hidden behind the TV. In-wall center channel and left/right stereo speakers are wired and terminated directly below the TV.
To the right of the TV is a large cavity built into the wall to handle a stereo component rack. Electrical is run, and all coax/Cat5 runs terminate directly at this build-out. I wasn’t sure how what I was going to do for my home theatre system, so I had the framing built, and then drywalled over until I could figure out what I wanted.
