Wildlife
With the property’s ideal location on a quiet dead-end road amidst a chain of lakes and acres of undeveloped land, abundant wildlife is to be expected. And Mother Nature does not disappoint!
From the deer grazing in the yard at sunrise to the wild turkeys eating oatmeal in the driveway to the muskrats swimming in the channels, the nature lover in you will be in awe that this amount of wildlife is available this close to civilization.
Deer can be found in the yard throughout the year, and will congregate close to the house if you set out apples or carrots. Many mornings you will find them bedded down in the grass waiting for the sunrise
A softshell turtle buries her eggs in the beach twice yearly. It’s quite a sight to behold if you haven’t seen the ping-pong sized eggs up close before!
Turtles can be seen everywhere on the lake and in the channels, the maximum we’ve counted sunning themselves on a hot summer day was 120, then we simply stopped counting! You will also find them wandering through the yard aimlessly.
There are usually two pairs of swans on the lakes, and they’re both docile enough to be fed, and will take bread right out of your hand if you’re brave enough.
The lakes are very well known for fishing, and every fisherman in the area wants to have a friend here who will let them onto the lake to fish! Bass, pike, bluegill, croppy, there are enough fish to keep you busy all day long if fishing is your game. Crooked Lake gets to 50+ foot depth, a contour map can be found on the Michigan DNR site HERE.

The swans are amazing! I’ve had a chance to feed them many times – such beautiful creatures.
